Charlie Scholz has been aiming his 500mm Nikon lens at Redondo Breakwater surfers from his spot under the Charthouse for over a decade. But he has never photographed as many good rides on so many consecutive days as he has since this past New Year’s Day, when a relentless WNW swell, accompanied by all day, offshore winds arrived in the South Bay. The swell was still holding the following Monday, when he photographed Breakwater standouts Jamie Meistrell, Chris Wells, Michael Luhrsen and Marcello Malinconico.
