Triathlon: Late registration is still available for the 7th annual Redondo Beach Triathlon sponsored by CaliforniaHealthPlans.com. The sprint event will be held Sunday at 7:30 a.m.  at the Veteran’s Park/Marina area in Redondo Beach. All of the proceeds go to Cheer for Children, a nonprofit organization that gives seasonal parties and raises money for acutely ill children at Harbor UCLA Medical Center. The USAT-sanctioned scenic course event consists of a 1/2-mile swim, 6-mile bike, and 2-mile run. Space is limited to the first 600 entries. A non-competitive mini-sprint (half the distances) is also available. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each division and the top two relay teams. Sprint fees are $80 (ages 13-19 and 65 and older), $90 (ages 20-64), and $120 (relay). Mini-sprint fees are $70 and $100 for the relay. To register, visit www.rbtriathlon.com.

Baseball

South Bay Surf Baseball will be hosting two hitting clinics with Hall-of-Famer Tony Gwynn on Thursday, June 16 from 4-6 p.m. at Torrance American Baseball, 23009 Doris Way, Torrance and from 7-9 p.m. at the Redondo Union High School varsity field. Aquatics: The Jimmy Miller Foundation and Hennessey’s presents the South Bay Dozen surf, paddleboard and surfski event on Saturday, June 18. Competition begins at 8 a.m. at Torrance Beach. All participants are awarded raffle tickets and prize money is allotted to the events top five men and top three women as scored by overall points. The annual Rock-to-Rock paddleboard race will be held Sunday, June 19. Paddleboarders compete on the new 22.17-mile course from the Isthmus on Catalina Island to Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro beginning at 6:30 a.m. The $100 entry fee includes shirt, pre- and post-race meals and finishers’ awards. Volleyball: The popular annual Mike Cook Marine Street Mixed beach volleyball tournament will be held Saturday at Marine Street in Manhattan Beach. The Amateur Athletic Union hosts the AAU California Regional Championships Sunday at the Manhattan Beach Pier. Registration and Volunteer Positions are now open for the United States Youth Volleyball League (USYVL) Fall Season. Register now and don’t miss out on the exciting youth volleyball league. Olympic gold medalist and former professional beach volleyball star Eric Fonoimoana will be holding an Elite Beach Volleyball Academy for two weeks at the south side of the Hermosa Beach Pier. The goal of the camp is to produce Division 1 talent for girls to earn a beach scholarship and boys to become a better indoor player by becoming a better-rounded player. The Academy runs from 12-3 p.m. July 18-21 and July 25-28 for boys and girls ages 12-18. Boys and girls ages 8-11 meet from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. July 25-28. Boys and girls ages 8 to 18 years old are invited to take part in Beach Cities Volleyball’s Summer Indoor Volleyball Program. The program will be held in July and August allowing players of all skill sets, beginner to advanced, to have fun and improve their volleyball skills. Each week-long camp features a 5-star coach-to-player ratio and lunch or dinner for full-day participants. Full-day and half-day programs are available. Running: The 10th Annual Manhattan Beach 5K Summer Solstice race will be held Saturday, June 18 at the Manhattan Beach Pier. The race is held on the morning of the year’s lowest tide, creating a wide, flat, fast, out-and-back course on hard packed sand. Entry fee $30. Kids races $25. Unique awards given to top five in each age group. Free T-shirts to pre-registrants and late entrants while supplies last. The G.I. Joe Spring Pier-2-Pier Run/Walk will be held Saturday at 7 a.m. The 4-mile course in the sand begins and ends at the Hermosa Beach Pier. The event is professionally timed and festivities include finish line entertainment, refreshments and lots of giveaways including free backpacks filled with goodies for the first 100 pre-registered participants. Fitness: AdventurePlex, 1701 Marine Ave., Manhattan Beach is offering its Open Rock Wall and Ropes Course on Saturdays from 12-3 p.m. (Rock Wall is also open Sundays from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.). Whether a single child, the whole family, or just a group of friends (Ages 5 and up for rock wall, 8 and up for ropes course), the course provides challenges of solving problems and overcoming obstacles.
