The Hermosa Beach Kiwanis Club will be holding a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at noon on Wednesday at the Hermosa Beach Kiwanis Club Hall at 2515 Valley Drive. All residents and visitors are invited to join the club in paying tribute to the lives lost on September 11, 2001 and beyond as well as the firefighters and police who responded to the day’s events.
“We hope the community will join us in honoring all involved,” said Hermosa Beach Kiwanis Club President Jeff Maxwell.
The program will include remarks by Hermosa Beach Councilman, Howard Fishman, Hermosa Beach Police Chief Michael McCrary, Hermosa Beach Police Captain Tom Thompson, and a benediction by Chaplain Katz.
“This is the city of Hermosa Beach’s official observance of 9/11″, said Hermosa Beach Police Chaplain Rabbi Gila Katz, who worked with the Hermosa Kiwanis Club to organize the Program. “I worked at ground zero as a Red Cross Disaster Chaplain from September 26 to October 16, 2001. There was an unprecedented spirit of support and generosity right after the attacks, we not only want to pay tribute and remember the 2,997 lives that were lost but also remember how our country came together at that time. We have never been the same as a country since the 9/11 terrorist attacks and we must never ever forget.”
