Best American BBQ: Pinkie’s

Pinkie's BBQ

Pinkie’s owner Steve Francis invites friends in once a month for a crafts beer and Pinkie’s home smoked, Missouri style barbeque. Photo

Their slogan is “The Sweetest Meat You’ll Ever Eat,” which some might find misleading – their meat tastes not of sugar, but of its own essences with a subtle mélange of smoke and spice. Pinky’s serves their barbeque with the sauce on the side, nothing to cover up or modify the natural goodness unless you decide to adulterate it yourself. Best of the BeachThey provide au jus for those who like theirs French Dip style, or you can opt for their own sauce. It’s made in house and has a nice balance – a little sweetness, a little hotness, and a little of that mysterious something that makes you try just a little more on your bread, in the beans, and by the spoonful when you think nobody’s looking.

Pinkie’s: 502 Pacific Coast Hwy, HB. 310-379-0616

Runner-up: Lucille’s, 24120 Hawthorne Blvd. (Del Amo Fashion Ctr), Torr. 310-370-7427.
