The El Segundo 12-and-Under Girls Softball All-Star team defeated Cypress 14-4 to capture the Laguna Niguel “Sea Country Classic” Silver Division tournament championship. Misc: The Redondo Athletic Association is seeking nominations for the Redondo Athletic Hall-of-Fame. The historical Inaugural Hall-of-Fame is slated for June 1, 2013. Nominations/applications are available at www.redondoathleticassociation.org.

Running: Accomplished ultra-runners, casual runners, and student athletes of all ages are invited to compete in the around-the-clock event Hermosa 24 Ultramarathon held Saturday-Sunday June 30-July 1. The 3.46-mile soft sand course goes from the Hermosa Beach Pier to the Manhattan Beach Pier and back. Patrick Sweeney broke organizer Christian Burke’s Guinness World Record last year completing 87.36 miles. A new record could be set as both runners are expected to compete against other elite runners. Solo and relay categories are available. Proceeds benefit local schools. The Annual Village Runner 4th of July 5K Run/Walk begins Wednesday, July 4 at 8 a.m. in front of Village Runner, 1881-A Catalina Ave., Redondo Beach. Celebrating its 19th year, the event also includes a Kids Dash. Cost is $30, kids’ dash $20 (add $5 after June 27). Medals awarded to top three in each age division. Basketball: The 40th Annual Peninsula Basketball Camp will take place at Palos Verdes High School July 23-27, July 30-Aug. 3 and Aug. 6-10. Volleyball: The California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) will be hosting the annual Mike Cook Marine Street Mixed Tournament Saturday at Marine Street in Manhattan Beach. Volleyball Ventures hosts Men’s and Women’s Doubles tournaments beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, June 7 at the Manhattan Beach Pier The event includes four levels of play (beginner to advanced) and is played in a round-robin format. Girls ages 8-12 are invited to learn volleyball from members of one of the most respected volleyball programs in the nation when the Mira Costa Girls Volleyball Camp takes place July 23-26. The four-day camp runs from 1-4 p.m. daily and is directed by Mira Costa head coach Lisa Arce-Zimmerman and her predecessor, DaeLea Aldrich who led the Mustangs to three national championships, six state championships and 14 CIF titles. The United States Youth Volleyball League’s early registration for the Fall Season is open until Sunday, July 1. Open to boys and girls ages 7-15, the eight-week league in Hermosa Beach is located at South Park and will run Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. from Sept. 10, through Oct. 29. Several volunteer opportunities are open, such as volleyball instructors, program coordinators and coaches.

The USYVL Summer Camp in Hermosa Beach will be held Monday through Wednesday, July 16-18 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Clark Stadium. Players are placed in groups according to their age and volleyball experience and taught by experienced instructors whose goal is to focus on the specific skills needed to improve the players’ skills at each level. Beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 7 at Torrance Beach, the Jimmy Miller Foundation and Hennessey’s present the 12-event South Bay Dozen that includes surf, paddleboard and surfski competitions. Registration is held only the day of the event starting at 7 a.m. with a $40 fee for all open competitors and $30 for all juniors (17 and under). South Bay Surf Baseball will be holding four 5-day camps featuring members of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Each session includes stations that teach baseball fundamentals, daily games, individual coaching on batting and pitching mechanics, weekly contests, prizes and player evaluations along with visits from such Angel players as Peter Bourjos, Mike Trout, Mark Trumbo and Bobby Wilson. The Beach Cities Cycling Club, Center for Health & Fitness and South Bay Bicycling Coalition are offering a free A to Z Safe Cycling course designed for adults that would like to adopt a healthier lifestyle through cycling, and learn the necessary skills to ride a bike safely. Participants must have the desire and commitment, access to a safe and dependable bike suitable for the road with multiple gears and a helmet. Participants must be a BCCC member (25.00 a year). The Los Angeles Velodrome Racing Association (LAVRA) is in the midst of its 2012 race season at the Velo Sports Center, 18400 Avalon Blvd., Carson. The Baxter Time Trial Series of bicycle races has started, and will continue each Sunday through Sept. 30 on a course in Carson, near Torrance. Often called the “race of truth,” a time trial is a race against the clock. There are men’s and women’s categories for several different age groups. Racers are awarded points for placing and winners are announced at the end of the series. The Baxter Series is sponsored by the South Bay Wheelmen, a club for racers, aspiring racers, and those who just love to ride their bike. Participants in the Baxter races must be a club member and have a US Cycling Federation license, but membership and a one-day USCF license can both be obtained at the race. Also available is a ropes course where groups of seven (ages 8 and up) start each half hour every Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost for the ropes course is $20; advance registration is recommended.
