Must See March Sporting Events for Hermosa Beach Residents

Hermosa Beach residents will know just how wild the weather can be in March. For many people, it pays to stay tucked up inside and turn to the television for comfort. Luckily, for sports fans eagerly awaiting the summer months, there is still plenty to watch. Below, we highlight the global sporting events that Hermosa beach sports fans must tune into this March.

Cheltenham Gold Cup

Horse racing events are huge in Britain, and few are as large or as prestigious as the Cheltenham Festival. Spread over four days, each day contains seven world-class National Hunt races. Not only does it attract the best horses, but world-class trainers and jockeys. Inevitably, this gives Cheltenham festival betting a huge appeal, with many people watching on television to cheer on their pick.

The jewel in the crown of these races is arguably the Gold Cup. This year, Galopin Des Champs is the favorite at 150. He is closely followed by A Plus Tard, last year’s winner. Yet the Cheltenham 2023 top jockey odds are just as important to spectators, as people try to pick who will be awarded for their outstanding performance. King of the course is Paul Townend, who is the top pick to claim back his title with -300 odds. Yet, for higher odds, Rachael Blackmore is not a bad call. As last year’s Gold Cup winner and the first female jockey to win the race, she is currently 1400 to take the accolade.

Indian Wells Masters

Call it the BNP Paribas Open or the Indian Wells. If you are lucky, you may just be able to catch the last week of this exciting tennis tournament. The biggest US meeting outside of the four Grand Slams, it has a host of tennis stars vowing for prize money and the valuable chance to up their rankings on the ATP tour.

Played on a hardcourt at the second largest permanent tennis facility on earth, the games are fast-paced and often long-lasting. This means only those with the best stamina make it through. At the time of writing, the tournament is halfway into play and hotting up. Cameron Norrie has completed an outstanding comeback and managed to advance to the fourth round. In the women’s competition, withdrawals from Lesia Tsurenko and wins from Iga Swiatek have blown the competition wide open.

However, if you did miss the tournament, then don’t fret. The Miami Open is later in the month and should give you the tennis fix you need.

March Madness

March Madness is the National Collegiate Basketball Association’s annual tournament. It pits 68 teams against each other in a knockout-style game where only the winners advance. This cuts down to smaller brackets until only two teams remain to take the title.

The madness moniker comes from the pace of the games. Higher-seeded teams play lower-ranked ones in the first few rounds, but there are plenty of giant killer moments. The recent addition of wildcard teams has made it even more exciting, along with the many young players who pull it out of the bag to catch the eyes of the NBA draft.

There are many other world sporting events taking place, from rugby to darts. If you don’t want to venture out and brave the weather, then there is a lot to keep you entertained. So, grab some snacks, get comfortable, and have fun.
