Cycling: The 52nd Annual Chevron Manhattan Beach Grand Prix will be held Sunday, July 7 from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. One of the West Coast’s oldest and most prestigious cycling street races features a thousand top cyclists in eight divisions racing the oval on Valley and Ardmore between 15th Street and Pacific. The South Bay Wheelmen hosts a group ride on the first Saturday of every month. Cyclists meet in the parking lot of the Catalina Coffee Company, 126 N. Catalina Ave, Redondo Beach at 9 a.m. The moderately-paced ride is 30-40 miles with some climbing and regroups at several points so no one gets left behind. The Wheelmen also hosts the Baxter Time Trial Series of bicycle races that began this week and will continue each Sunday through Sept. 29 on a course in Carson. Men and women divisions compete in several age groups where racers are awarded points for placing and winners are announced at the end of the series. Aquatics: Hennessey’s and the Jimmy Miller Foundation present The South Bay Dozen on Saturday, July 6 at Torrance Beach. Loyola Marymount University Swim Camps will be holding six weekly summer sessions led by LMU Women’s Swim Coaches Bonnie Adair and Elaine Ferritto. Developmental camp (ages 7-14) will develop skills in all four competitive strokes while an Advanced camp (ages 9-15) will focus on elite level training methods and techniques using underwater videotaping. Registration is now open for the 2013 Dwight Crum Pier to Pier Swim. The swim will be held on Sunday, Aug. 4. Tennis: Registration is ongoing for the 46th Annual Manhattan Beach Open Tennis Tournament presented by South Bay Ford. Open to players ages 16+, the single elimination tournament will be played Thursday through Sunday, July 18-21 at Live Oak Park and Mira Costa High School. Divisions include Men’s and Women’s Open; 4.5-5.0 singles and doubles; 4.0 singles and doubles and 3.5 and below singles and doubles. Fees for Open division are $75 (singles) and $100 (doubles); Amateur divisions $40 and $55. All entries include lunch, T-shirt and goodie bag. Baseball: The 36th Annual Peninsula Baseball Camp will take place at Palos Verdes High School from July 29-Aug. 2. The camp is for boys and girls ages 6-14 and will run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. (full day) and 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (1/2 day). There will be a guest alumni speaker from the Los Angeles Dodgers. The cost is $230 (full day) and $115 (1/2 day). The 9th Annual Peninsula Baseball ½ Day Baseball Camp will take place at Hesse Park in Rancho Palos Verdes from Aug. 5-9. The camp is for boys and girls ages 5 to 12 and runs from 9 a.m. to noon. Mustang Baseball Camps will be holding a summer sessions for players ages 6-14. The camp runs from 9 a.m.-noon July 29-Aug. 2 at Mira Costa High School. Fees are $200 and include t-shirt and snack. Mira Costa varsity coaches and players will instruct campers in hitting, fielding, pitching and base running. Games will be played each day. Volleyball: The annual Mira Costa Girls Volleyball Camp will be held Monday through Thursday, July 22-25 from 1-4 p.m. at Mira Costa High School. The California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) will be hosting the Mike Cook Marine Street Mixed tournaments beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday at Marine Street in Manhattan Beach. The Amateur Athletic Union’s (AAU) Southern Pacific Beach Volleyball Committee hosts a four-part Summer Series at Marine Avenue in Manhattan Beach. Competition begins at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays July 9-23 and Thursday, July 25 featuring boys 16U/14U/12U and girls 18U/16U/14U/12U/10U divisions. Open to AAU members, the cost of the tournament in $53.49 per player. The tournament is also a qualifying event for the West Coast AAU Junior Olympic Games held in Hermosa Beach July 27-30. Dave Miller, former NBA/NCAA basketball coach and current Laker basketball analyst, will be hosting his MVP summer basketball camps July 8-12 and August 5-9 from 9-3 p.m. The camp is for boys and girls ages 5-14 and will be held at the Aviation Sports Complex, 1935 Manhattan Beach Blvd. in Redondo Beach.
