Police Chief Retirement Celebration at the Palos Verdes Golf Club & Civic Center Park

After 27 years of service with the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department, Police Chief Tony Best retired at the end of 2022. Chief Best began his career in law enforcement with PVE as a service officer. He subsequently served as the department’s first motorcycle officer, a canine handler, range master, training sergeant, patrol division commander and police chief. All these roles helped inform his understanding of the vibrant PVE community, and helped shape his much admired leadership. 

In 2012, Best was promoted to Police Captain. As a Captain, he oversaw the Operations Division from 2012 to 2016, and Support Services Division from 2016 to 2020. During this time, he graduated from the FBI National Academy. In November 2020, Best was promoted to Chief of Police. Over 150 residents attended his farewell event at the PV Golf Club in January 2023.The evening was filled with amusing stories from the past three decades, and some poignant memories of milestones.
