Athletes from Mira Costa and Redondo boys and girls track and field teams combined for 56 top-three finishes, including 19 event champions, while dominating the Bay League finals held at Redondo Friday.
In boys competition, Redondo brought home a school-high six titles led by Brandon Boyd and Ryan Hyman who were three-time winners.

Hyman placed first in the 100 (11.00), 200 (22.37) and anchored the Sea Hawks’ 400 relay team behind Dwayne Smith, Christian Bassman and Boyd to outpace rival Mira Costa for the win at 42.86 seconds.
Along with the 440 relay, Boyd won the 400 (50.43) and ran the third leg on the first-place 1,600 relay team (3:24.67) with Bassman, Remington Besnoin and Simon Schermerhorn.
Schermerhorn also took top honor in the 800 with a time of 1:56.59.
Mira Costa’s Michael Koger ruled the hurdle events, winning the 110 hurdles in 14.85 and the 300 hurdles in 39.47.

Mustangs Ryan Morrow won the pole vault (14-2), Jonathan Matson recorded the best high jump (6-0) and J.R. Tavai outdistanced the field with a shot put of 54-04.
Girls from Mira Costa and Redondo produced four first-place finishes for each school. Mira Costa’s Lauren Wellbaum emerged as a triple winner by winning the 100 hurdles (15.18), 300 hurdles (46.21) and joining Charlotte Barnett, Taylor Foland and Ashlee Dotson to capture the 1,600 relay with a time of 4:03.07.
Aryn Foland placed first in the 3,200, crossing the finish line at the 10:50.46 mark.

Redondo was led by sprinter Shelby Bassman and distance runners Chloe Curtis and Lyndsey Mull. Bassman beat teammate Haley Miller to win the 100 in 12.86 seconds, and Curtis and Mull flip-flopped the top two spots in the 800 and 1,600 with Curtis winning the 800 (2:15.33) and Mull the 1,600 (4:53.18).
Miller joined Cara Ulizio, Lisa Durden and Aleesha Love in capturing the 400 relay (46.77) for the Sea Hawks.
Mira Costa boys advancing to the CIF Prelims on Saturday with top-three Bay League finishes are Joe McMahon (3rd – 100, 2nd – 200); Bret Douville (2nd – 800); Alex Norocea (2nd – 300 hurdles); Anthony Holden (2nd – pole vault); Matthew Leung (2nd – long jump); Matson (2nd – triple jump); Marcus Probasco (2nd – shot put); Jordan Tavai (3rd – shot put) and J.R. Tavai (2nd –discus).
Redondo boys include Bassman (2nd – 100); Boyd (3rd – 200); Dezhan Bland (3rd – 800); Besnoin (2nd – 1,600) and Evan Malone (3rd – 1,600).
Lady Mustangs advancing include: Dotson (3rd – 200, 2nd – 400); Barnett (3rd – 400); Savannah Pio (2nd – 3,200); Kristen Ellis (2nd – 300 hurdles); Bree Willard (3rd – long jump) and Brittany Collins (3rd – discus).
Other girls placing in the top three for Redondo were: Miller (2nd – 100, 2nd – long jump); Durden ( 2nd – 200); Mull (2nd – 800); Curtis (2nd – 1,600); Rachel Bush (3rd – 3,200); Olivia Loveland (3rd – 300 hurdles); Aundrea Yancy (2nd – high jump, 3rd – shot put) and Michelle Lowery (2nd – shot put, 2nd – discus).
