A day at Champ Camp, one thing is guaranteed: your kids will be outside moving around and enjoying it. With an array of activities that includes relay races, arts and crafts, beach basketball, soccer, fort building, boogie boarding and charades, the Manhattan Beach-based summer beach camp prides itself on its open-ended approach to the program. “We don’t have a set itinerary each day — the kids get to pick and choose and paint the day,” said director Trevor Elder, a South Bay native certified lifeguard and EMT. “Anything to get the kids moving around and excited about being outside. We put the ball in their court.” Founded by Elder in 2012, Champ Camp staffs about 15 first-aid and CPR-certified college grads. “The common denominator is that we’re all big kids at heart and passionate about the kids,” Elder said.
