Dear Easy Reader,
We are 100% against drilling for oil in Hermosa Beach. The proposed drilling location is next to a park where our children play and attend after school programs. A park that the city is about to renovate and plant a community garden. The drill site will be a few blocks away from Hermosa Valley School which is attended by all students 3rd through 8th grades and near a baseball field that host our Little League games. In addition, there are thousands of residents that live and surround the drilling site. Please ask yourself how much is the health and safety of you, your family, and friends worth? Is it okay to jeopardize and put these lives at risk? E&B is going to assure the residents that their “state-of–the-art” drilling site is going to be safe and the project will be financially lucrative for the city. But, beyond all of their promises, they can’t guarantee us that the drilling project will be infallible. BP, one of the most technologically advanced oil companies, could not predict the disastrous blowout that occurred in 2010 and killed 11 workers and spilled 200 million gallons of oil into the Gulf Coast. Can you imagine the catastrophic outcome if that occurred in our densely populated city? The citizens of Hermosa Beach can protect our city and it residents by voting “NO” on oil drilling in Hermosa.”
