With a cash purse of $1900 provided by Aloha HR, the Hermosa Beach Hotdogger Championships Presented by Subaru Pacific brought in a lot of big names from all over.
“It didn’t bring the best caliber of longboarding to the Hermosa Beach Pier,” said head judge Shawn O’Brien. “It brought the best caliber of surfing to ever to hit the pier, long or short.”
The finalist included two “Surfer’s Journal” cover subject, last summer’s Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational runner-up, and a crew of longboarders who’ve been seen in the pages of many surf publications.
“In the shortboard world the talent is equal to surfers surfing a WSL event,” said O’Brien. He jokes, “but at the Hermosa Beach Pier.”
