Hermosa’s endless summer construction

As Hermosa undertakes an ambitious overhaul of its iconic main drag, owners of businesses lining the avenue foresee their critical summer season blocked by bulldozers. City officials are looking forward to a pedestrian-friendly downtown destination, as are the owners of the avenue’s many shops, restaurants and salons.

But meanwhile, construction is driving away customers, causing sales to fall as much as 30 percent at some businesses, owners said.

Firefighter cited for career as leader
