Ex-cop gets three years probation for hit-and-run

Former Manhattan Beach police officer Richard Hatten pleaded no contest in Torrance Superior Court on Tuesday to a misdemeanor count of failing to stop at the scene of a hit-and-run car accident he caused about a year and a half ago, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Manhattan Beach city council voted unanimously on Tuesday to approve an ordinance to ban smoking on The Strand and along Veterans Parkway/Greenbelt in Manhattan Beach. The ban will go into effect on October 10, said Christi Hogin, interim city attorney.
