Former city manager Geoff Dolan, 57, has filed a $2 million claim against the city, nearly a year and a half after his sudden and controversial departure.

Dolan, who abruptly resigned in December 2009 after 15 years with the city, filed the claim on May 12, alleging that the Manhattan Beach City Council breached his contract and violated privacy by “publicly releasing private, confidential information that disparaged” him, according to a statement from Patricio Barrera.

The case is being handled for the city by its insurance carrier, the Independent Cities Risk Management Association.

“It could be a precursor to a lawsuit, but we just don’t know,” City Manager Dave Carmany said. ER
