Arrest made in 5-car collision

A Redondo Beach woman was arrested for felony DUI by the Hermosa Beach Police Department, after her car, headed northbound on Aviation Blvd., swerved southbound, causing a five-car collision on Tuesday, Jan. 30.

The incident occurred in the 900 block of Aviation and snarled rush hour traffic for hours as Hermosa Beach Police Officers conducted an investigation. Four people, including the driver who swerved, were injured.

“There were no fatalities, no life-threatening injuries,” HBPD Acting Captain Mick Gaglia said. “I think we were out there for about two hours. It was a SIG alert. The roadway was completely blocked.”

The HBPD will be submitting the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution, he said.

The HBPD is requesting the public’s help. Anyone with any information about the incident, including any witness to the collision, is asked to call HBPD Traffic Officer Keaton Dadigan at (310) 318-0307.

HBPD return stolen vehicle, arrests 3 for drinking

HBPD officers arrested three people for being drunk in public during the week of Jan. 21 through Jan. 27. HBPD officers also stopped a car and found the driver was without a license and on probation for a firearms charge. The passenger was a felon and HBPD found pepper spray and multiple boxes of shoes in the car.

Hermosa police also found and returned property to a number of residents, including an Apple Watch, a ring, a wallet and a bicycle. HBPD also recovered a stolen vehicle.

RBPD investigating 11 vehicle burglaries

Eleven vehicles in Redondo Beach were broken into in January. Thefts from the vehicles ranged from a Smith & Wesson revolver to children’s crayons. Most of the vehicle burglaries occurred between Jan. 23 and Jan. 28, although there was one reported to have occurred between January 7 and 8 involving a Tesla. Sunglasses, car registration, and both front and back license plates were stolen.

In six of the 11 incidents, the thief — or thieves –were able to take property from cars that were unlocked or possibly unlocked.

In addition to the Tesla, two Mercedes, a BMW, and a Rivian sedan were among the cars targeted. A thief or thieves also burglarized a camping trailer, a Mitsubishi SUV, a Chevrolet Silverado, a Jeep, a Toyota Prius and a Toyota 4-Runner SUV.

The Smith & Wesson revolver was taken from the Chevrolet Silverado, according to the report. Other victims lost valuable identification cards, including a Social Security card, taken from the Mitsubishi SUV. A checkbook was taken from the Rivian, as well as a cigar cutter. A passport was reported stolen from one of the Mercedes.

There were seven residential burglaries in Redondo Beach between Jan. 22 and Jan. 28, but two of those were foiled by residents of the homes, and another by the apartment manager.

MBPD take 40 crime reports

The Manhattan Beach Police Department took 40 crime reports during the week of Jan. 25 through Jan. 31, including 11 for theft, three for vehicle burglary, three for auto theft and one for assault.

On Jan. 29, officers responded to a call at the Red Carpet Car Wash about the attempted assault. A transient lunged at a car wash employee with a knife. The transient fled the car wash, but was arrested by officers a short time later. The victim, who was not injured, identified the transient, who was found with a knife. ER
