Lobster season opened October 1, which means there would be divers, snorklers, waders and hoopers, that would be those wit hoop nets, invading the waters fromMalibuto Rocky Point in search of them Bugs.
State Fish and No-Game officers were out in force, too. No private boater, or anybody for that matter escaped inspection.
If yer even thinking about taking Lobster there be plenty rules. Number one rule, ya better have a fishing license and a lobster book to record the size, when taken and where.
Second important rule, you must have in yer possession an approved lobster measuring device. These are sold at most fishing tackle stores. To be sure you do not break any of the hund’erd or so rules, just get a Fish and No-Game book.
On opening nite, ole Jack here had lined up three of me closest buddies to go out and do a wee bit of hooping. To be honest, I do not like hooping, I do not like going under water and diving for them things, and I do not snorkle.
It is actually cheeper to dive in Captain Kid’s Lobster tank, operated by Big John Mills, located onHarbor DriveinRedondo Beach.
Big John sez, “By the time ya buy a boat, buy the hoopnets, buy a fishing and lobstering license, buy the bait and do all the rest ya has to do, the first lobster that hits yer deck will cost you about $1,000 clams!”
I did the math, I could have sat in my backyard, sipping a coolCoronacon lemon, toss a T-bone steak on the Barbie and a Captn Kids lobster for less than a $100 bucks.
That’s what I ended up doing anyway, caus’in my buddies all had excuses as to why they did not show up to go hooping.
Paulie said he had a bad run’in wit Captain Morgan. Mark could not find his GPS, being his bearings; no marks for Mark. My other buddy Kenny G, made bait, but we had no nets as Mark was in posession o’de nets and never showed up any’who. Avast…..
The ole Captain don’t give up easy. Bay Runner Ray showed up wit a bag full of fresh tuna caught offMexico, what was left of the party decided to eat tuna, steak and Captn Kid’s lobster.
As for fishing in the big Bay, there be plenty of Calico Bass off the weeds, Sand Bass in the sand, Red Snapper in the snapping reefs and a few nice big fat White Sea Bass from Bassland..Arrggggg…
Dis wee fast moving storm that stirred things up, turned the waters over to cool and colder, will slow the bite until this weekend when it warms up. However, it may improve the lobster bite as they get on the move after a storm and a blow.
This is a good thing for the comercial boys and others in search of these tiny spiney yumyums.
But, for yer information, before you bite into that tail, lobsters eat everything off the bottom just like a mudsucking catfish. That’s how come and what for they is nic’named Cockroaches of the sea…
Arrgggggggggggg sez the Captain. ER
