When Dr. Lester Silverman applied to open one of the first stores at Metlox Plaza about nine years ago, he had to convince the city why they should choose him. Given his involvement in the community, it makes sense why they did. In addition to being a member of the Manhattan Beach Rotary, Silverman is on the city’s library commission and was on the parking and public improvements commission. His store is also a supporter of the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation. “When people spend their money here, it comes back to them,” he said.
