A new home on the market could set a record if bought for its asking price of $28.9 million.

The 9-bedroom, 8-bathroom house on the corner of The Strand and 10th Street was bought by the seller’s father in 1955 for $35,000, according to its listing on the Re/Max website, which calls it a “legacy asset.”

“This premier south-facing over-sized corner lot on the prestigious South Manhattan Strand has not been available for purchase in over 60 years,” says the description.

The most expensive house bought in the immediate area in the past two years was a two-bedroom, two-bathroom house at The Strand and 17th Street, sold for $16 million last July, according to property records.

The 10th Street property appears to consist of a three-story house, which overlooks the ocean, attached to a rectangular structure behind it.

Property records indicate that it was built as a four-bedroom, two-bathroom house in 1922. In 1965, the square footage was more than doubled to almost 6,000 square feet when five bedrooms and six bathrooms were added. The house is listed as a single family house.

A call to the Re/Max agent, Victoria Beck, wasn’t returned in time for publication.

The website says the listing has been on the site for 27 days. ER
