Parent Volunteer of the Year
Manhattan Beach Unified School District volunteer Edie Babbe was named Parent Volunteer of the Year by the Los Angeles County Office of Education at a presentation in Universal City on Monday. She was one of three in the county to be awarded the honor.
Babbe was nominated by parents and district personnel who have worked with her on school and community committees, councils, boards and special task forces. She served as Grand View Elementary School PTA president from 2004 to 2006, the Manhattan Beach Council of PTAs president from 2006 to 2009 and a Manhattan Beach Education Foundation Board member since 2004. Babbe has also volunteered for the South Bay Youth Project and Children’s Health Center to provide counseling services to those who cannot afford them.
“Edie Babbe sees the big picture,” said MBUSD Superintendent Michael Matthews. “She understands that school funding has been reduced drastically, and she has taken steps with other volunteers that have impacted classrooms, schools, the district and all of California. She is truly an amazing leader.”
Stroller Valet Service
