Redondo Police to crack down on DUI, seat belts
starting Memorial Day Weekend

The Redondo Beach Police Department is taking part in multiple state- and nation-wide efforts to enforce traffic laws this weekend, with particular focus on DUI and seat belt laws.

RBPD will deploy additional officers for DUI saturation patrol to stop and arrest drivers showing drug or alcohol impairment beginning this weekend. Checkpoints will be in place throughout the summer, from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Police are also reminding drivers that “DUI doesn’t just mean booze.” Prescription drugs and cannabis can also impair drivers enough to result in a DUI.

RBPD will also deploy officers from May 21 to June 3 in a nationwide Click It or Ticket seat-belt campaign.

“Buckling up is such a simple task that can keep you and your family safe in the car,” said RBPD Chief Keith Kauffman. “Our law enforcement personnel see the consequences of not buckling up. We see the loss of life and injuries at the scene of a crash. Often, deaths could have been prevented and injuries reduced with the simple click of a seat belt. This should be automatic.”

Both programs are funded by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
