Dating site swindle
Unknown suspects made several unauthorized withdrawals from the bank account of a Hermosa woman by fooling her into thinking she was talking on the customer service line for the dating website Plenty of Fish. According to police reports, the woman, who had hoped to complain about the website, made the call on Sept. 29. The fraudsters obtained her bank account information after telling her that they would credit her account, then made the withdrawals instead.
Construction site break-in
An under-construction South Hermosa home got a little-unexpected work earlier this month when unknown suspects broke in and applied a wood stain to one of the house’s rooms. According to police reports, the incident occurred sometime between 6 p.m. Oct. 6 and 8 a.m. Oct. 10 at a construction site on the 700 block of 1st Street. The suspects had to force entry through a fence surrounding the home, and evidently used a container of wood stain that had been left on the site for a different part of the project.
