Garner was top Golden Era team rider  Ronnie Garner (left) on the beach with his crew during the Golden Era of Surfing, in the late ‘60s. Garner was a team rider for the Bay Area Surf Club, and the Rick and Weber surf shops. In 1967, he was ranked 15th in the Surfer Magazine poll. His professional long board career was cut short the following year when he was drafted into the Army. Upon his return he continued to compete in amateur longboard contests.
