Terror memorial
A piece of the World Trade Center will be on display when Hermosa Beach Police Department chaplains will hold a memorial service at Pier Avenue and Valley Drive, 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the 9-11 attack on the World Trade Center.
The service will be held at the community’s 9-11 memorial bench, decorated with 2,998 buttons for each victim of the attacks, along with airline flight attendant wings and badge pins from NYPD and NYFD. The bench is being augmented with four-foot-tall replicas of the WTC, and standing between them a foot-long piece of the WTC, provided by the New York and New Jersey port authorities.

Park movie
Hermosa Beach Friends of the Parks presents the animated animal flick “Surf’s Up” Saturday, Sept. 10 at Hermosa Valley Park,Valley Drive at Gould, as part of the Movies in the Park series.
Venue opens 5 p.m., the movie starts at dark. Popcorn and hot dogs will be available. No pets or alcohol, a $5 donation is suggested for everyone 4 and older; blankets and beach chairs are encouraged, but no high-backed chairs.
Proceeds benefit Friends of the Parks, which makes improvements to Hermosa parks.
Handel, fireworks
It’s only $15, or $10 for Hermosa Five-0 members, for a city-sponsored bus ride to Hollywood Bowl and admission to the 8 p.m. show Thursday, Sept. 15. Bus pickup at the Community Center, 710 Pier Ave., is 5:30 p.m. Registration is at the Community Center 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Thursday. For info call 310-318-0280.
