One of the two men suspected in the beating death of an employee at Pats II Cocktails was apprehended by Redondo Beach police Saturday afternoon.
Alejandro Avina, 30, was taken into custody after police saw him drive past a house in South Redondo where the get-away car witnesses recalled seeing flee the scene was found earlier in the day.
“We were watching the location and he just happened to drive by,” Sgt Fabian Saucedo said.
Based on witnesses, the second suspect, Francisco “Frank” Cobarruivas Jr. 35, was a known friend of the home’s inhabitants.
According to police, the bouncer, Terie Colecchi, 49, denied the two men entrance to the bar because it nearing closing time around 1:47 a.m. on Saturday.
“They walked up and he didn’t want to let them in,” said Saucedo. “He escorted them out and that’s when the fight ensued. It was two against one and there were no weapons that we are aware of. We still need to get their side of it.”
According to police the pair are wanted on suspicion of murder. Avina is currently being held at the RBPD jail on a $1 million bail. He is scheduled to appear for arraignment in the Torrnace Courthouse on June 5.

Police think they could be in the Wilmington area near Banning High School where Cobarruivas has family.
“At this point we want him to come to his senses and turn himself in,” said Saucedo “We are not sure where he is but we do need the public’s help [finding him].”
