Head Coach Patty Perkinson has Mira Costa’s girls soccer team gearing up for a run at a sixth consecutive Bay League title, hosting a final tune-up game tomorrow against defending Pioneer League champion El Segundo at 3 p.m.
Mira Costa (7-2-1) recorded its sixth shutout of the season Monday with a 3-0 non-league victory over Torrance. The Mustangs finished third in the South Holiday Tournament after posting back-to-back shutouts against defending CIF Division 5 champion South.
After suffering a 2-1 loss to Harvard-Westlake, Mira Costa squeezed out a 1-0 victory over South, ranked No. in the Division 5 pre-season poll. The Mustangs defeated the Spartans for the second time in four days when Emy Emmetti and Kelsey Braunecker scored goals for a 2-0 win in the third-place game. Simi Valley defeated Notre Dame Academy 3-0 in the championship match.
Mira Costa opens Bay League action Tuesday with a 3 p.m. road-game at Leuzinger.
Head Coach Shelley Marsden has Redondo (4-2) starting the season strong behind the play of Jazmin Ponce. The Sea Hawks host Peninsula Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the Bay League opener for both teams. ER
