Mira Costa, Redondo Union girls basketball teams prepare for deep runs in CIF Division 2AA playoffs

With top-ranked Chaminade competing in the newly formed girls basketball Open Division, Bay League runner-up Redondo Union (17-9) moved up one spot to the No. 4 seed in CIF Division 2AA and will host Sunkist runner-up Kaiser (13-10) on Saturday.

 

Redondo head coach Marcelo Enriquez hopes the Sea Hawk’s two lopsided wins in the final week of the regular season will propel his squad for a deep run in the playoffs. Redondo concluded Bay League action outscoring Palos Verdes and Leuzinger with a combined 127-53.

All games with the exception of the finals are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Second-round games will be played Wednesday, Feb. 26.

Mira Costa (18-10) finished fourth in the Bay League earning an at-large berth in Division 2AA. Coach John Lapham’s Mustangs travel to take on River Valley runner-up La Sierra (15-9).

In Division 1A, Peninsula (17-8) is seeded seventh and will play at Katella (9-14) on Saturday.

Bay League champion West Torrance (25-4) is the top-seeded team in Division 2A and will host Baldwin Park (8-17). The division will include three teams from the Pioneer League including champion North Torrance (19-7) which earned the No. 4 seed and will host Norwalk (10-13). South Torrance (19-7) is seeded sixth and hosts Garden Grove (13-13). Torrance (13-11) is ranked No. 15 and hosts Beverly Hills (13-13).

In Division 3AA, Palos Verdes (7-16) is ranked No. 13 and will travel to Temple City (12-11) while No. 14 Hawthorne (15-11) travels to Charter Oak (11-13).

Leuzinger (9-19) earned a Division 3A at-large berth out of the Bay League. Ocean League runner-up Inglewood (10-17) is the top seeded team in the division.

In Division 4AA, Del Rey co-champion Bishop Montgomery (19-8) in the second seed and is the only team in the division to earn a first-round bye. The Knights will face the winner of the El Segundo (13-14)-Paraclete (9-14) game. El Segundo is ranked No. 15 in the division.

In Division 5AA, No. 12 Chadwick (13-9) plays at Holy Family (7-16).
