 Street and bike path closures

Northbound Highland Avenue from Rosecrans Avenue to 45th Street will be closed today from 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Roads will also be closed at the intersection of Vista Del Mar and Grand Avenue in El Segundo. Though the closures will temporarily restrict traffic, motorists in North Manhattan Beach will be able to leave the city headed south toward Rosecrans Avenue. 

The bike path will also be temporarily closed from during the same time between the 45th Street  and Grand Avenue beach parking lots in El Segundo. Beach access outside the power plant will be restricted from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

Pacific Elementary School second-grader Noah Daniels last weekend won first place at the Annual Junior Open Scholastic Chess Tournament in Garden Grove for the K-12 under 1500 division. Last month, Daniels won first place at the 2010 American Open Scholastic Chess Tournament in Los Angeles for the K-3 division The win increased his U.S. Chess Federation rating to 1207, which will likely place him among the top 100 8-year-old rated chess players in the nation next March. Daniels began playing chess in an after-school program at Pacific and started competing shortly after. “He plays people online because his dad and I can’t play him,” said Noah’s mom, Sunnie Daniels.
