World Series Champs take the CT3 Polar Plunge 

The Los Angeles Dodgers, led by manager Dave Roberts and Chris Taylor return to the Manhattan Beach Pier on Sunday, February 2 for the Second Annual CT3 Polar Plunge, benefiting the Friendship Foundation. Former USC offensive line coach Pat Ruel will speak at the South Bay Athletic Club luncheon at the H.T. Grill, 1701 S. Catalina Ave., Redondo Beach. The weekly SBAC meeting, which starts at noon, is open to the public. Lunch is $30.

Oil drilling in Hermosa, Hermosa Museum

A new exhibit at the Hermosa Beach Museum, The Drill’s Path: A Timeline of Oil Drilling in Hermosa Beach. The exhibit traces the history of oil in Hermosa and the South Bay from the turn of the century to the present. This opening event features a first look at the new exhibit, an introduction to the topic from Board Member Mark Shoemaker and Program and Education Manager Ryan Basford. Light refreshments. Cancer Support Community welcome orientation – via Zoom   

Find out what Cancer Support Community South Bay is all about in this virtual orientation meeting. Participants will be given a virtual tour of the community and learn about the many free programs that CSC South Bay offers for cancer patients and their loved ones. Lunar New Year, SC Botanic Garden

Every Saturday and Sunday throughout February visitors will be immersed in festive activities. Enjoy hands-on art-making stations where you can create kites and snake puppets, or join a  plant walk. Other highlights include storytelling, a wishing tree and music. A 360 photo booth, specialty foods and hand-mixed cocktails available for purchase. Three live performances featuring lion dancers, martial artists, folk dancers and drummers will take place on Sat. and Sun. at 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. for a modest additional fee. Stitch and Sew, North Redondo Library

People of all ages who sew, want to learn how to sew, or want to work on a project with fellow sewing enthusiasts. A free monthly program for those that want to sew. Klezmer musician, survivor, JCC

Holocaust survivor klezmer band performer Saul Dreier, now 99-years-old, was born in Poland in 1925. In 1939, Saul’s youth in Krakow was cut short with the start of World War II, when the life of the Jewish people turned into the nightmare of the Holocaust. He spent years in Labor Camps and Concentration Camps including in Oscar Schindler’s factory. Talking trash, MB Library

Plastic pollution in our oceans is reaching critical levels, endangering the livelihood of our marine life. Marine biologist Dr John Dorsey, an expert in ocean clean-up efforts, will lead an engaging presentation on the devastating impact of ocean trash and what’s being done to combat it. He’ll share stories from his work with The Ocean Cleanup nonprofit and offer simple, actionable tips to help protect marine life and reduce pollution.
