Spotlight: Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk

The Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk, presented by Kinecta Federal Credit Union, hopes to raise a record breaking $2.5 million on Sunday, October 30, during its 14th annual walk from the Manhattan Beach pier to the Hermosa Beach pier and back. More than 100 companies and schools will participate in the walk. During and following the walk entertainment and athletic celebrities will meet with and entertain the walkers. They include Brooke Burke, Sugar Ray Leonard, Amanda Kloots, Dani Bowman, and America’s Got Talent golden buzzer winner Madison Taylor Baez. 

The annual event will also feature an adopt-a-pet center sponsored by Petco Love and Los Angeles Animal Services at the BOBS from Skechers store on Manhattan Beach Boulevard. Proceeds will benefit The Friendship Foundation, and local school education foundations. The Friendship Foundation offers children with varying abilities one-on-one peer visits and social recreational activities, from online gatherings to summer camps, sporting event outings and classes such as music, yoga, cooking, art, and drama. Manhattan Beach art exhibit

The Manhattan Beach Art Center has a new exhibit, Lynn Aldrich’s “Fly High Fly Deep.” The exhibit, on display through Jan. 1, is about environmental conservation. Viewers are invited to consider the wonder and fragility of life in the sky and sea. The center’s gallery is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. For more information, call 310-802-5440.

Halloween recycling

The Roundhouse Aquarium on the Manhattan Beach Pier has partnered with Rubicon and set up a Trick or Trash box where community members can dispose of their Halloween candy wrappers from Oct. 24-Nov. 7. Most wrappers end up in a landfill or, in the case of the South Bay, littering the beach. Rubicon sorts the wrappers and picks out ones made of paper or other recyclables, thus keeping them out of the landfill and giving them a second life.

Torrance art exhibits

The Torrance Art Museum has debuted its fall exhibitions. It continues through December. The exhibits are “Un-Civil War! (An Election Special),” a critical inquiry into the deepening divisions in America’s political and cultural landscape, and “Ken Friedman: 92 Events.” 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays. The Mira Costa drama department presents John Cariani’s “Love/Sick,” a collection of nine humorous, slightly twisted and completely hilarious short plays, set on a Friday night in an alternate suburban reality. Mira Costa to present “Love/Sick”

Tickets to Mira Costa’s fall production, John Cariani’s “Love/Sick,” a collection of nine slightly twisted and completely hilarious short plays, are on sale at miracostadramaboosters.org. Set on a Friday night in an alternate suburban reality, this 80-minute show explores the pain and joy that comes with being in love. The show is rated PG-13. Show dates are Nov. 4, Nov. 5, Nov. 9, Nov. 10, Nov. 11 and Nov. 12.

Cancer Support Community South Bay (CSC South Bay) is offering a three-part series of workshops led by Benj Sinskul, a medical QiGong practitioner. Redondo Beach Witch Paddle

Portofino Hotel & Marina has joined forces with Harbor Vibes for the third annual Redondo Beach Witch Paddle. The Portofino restaurant will be setting up a beer garden for the occasion. The witch paddle will begin at 10:30 a.m. and friends and family are welcome to cheer on the paddlers from the beer garden. Fundraiser

M.I.A. Recoveries Inc. is holding a fundraiser in honor of Clayton Kuhles for the recovery of a specific aircraft by a team from M.I.A. Recoveries. Kuhles, the founder and president of MIA Recoveries, discovered the crash site on Dec. 7, 2010. There will be a seminar from 3-4:30 p.m. at Torrance Municipal Airport, 3301 Airport Drive. Beach Volleyball Hall of Fame 

The 2022 CBVA Beach Volleyball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is set for Nov. 12 at the Hermosa Community Theater, 710 Pier Ave. There will be a social hour from 5-7 p.m. at the Hermosa Beach Museum. The induction ceremony will start at 7 p.m. in the adjacent Community Theatre to present awards, induct the Hall of Fame Class of 2022 and honor legends of the sport. The Class of 2022 includes Annett Davis, Sean Rosenthal and Jon Lee. The Ron Von Hagen award will go to the Cressman brothers for organizing the Gillis Volleyball Tournament for fifty years.
