Sports luncheon, HT Grill
Professor Jeff Fellenzer speaks to the South Bay Athletic Club noon luncheon at the H.T. Grill, 1701 S. Catalina Ave., Redondo Beach. Fellenzer teaches a USC class focusing on the intersection of sports and business. The public is invited. Lunch is $30. Hermosa Museum skate research workshop
Are you a high school student interested in how sports go down in history? At the Hermosa Beach Museum, you can take part in writing skateboarding’s story as a volunteer research assistant. Taking on the role of a museum registrar, you will gain real-world experience in research, data organization, and interpretation as you help document our collection of over 100 skateboards. Smart Gardening Composting
Palos Verdes Library District experts will teach participants the basic techniques of backyard composting including worm composting, water-wise gardening, grasscycling, and edible gardening. Nature walk, Forrestal Nature Preserve
A guided walk with some spectacular vistas of the coastline. Docents will talk about the local geology and the many rock formations exposed in this area. View autumn changes of the reserve along with a visit to the newly opened Ladera Linda Community Park’s Discovery Room to learn about the fauna of the Palos Verde Peninsula. Moderate to strenuous. Architectural odyssey, Hermosa Museum
Join the Hermosa Beach museum on an architectural bus tour through the works of Richard D. King. The tour includes a champagne lunch and exclusive penthouse access in Long Beach’s Villa Riviera! The tour stops at several locations for photo opportunities, including R.D. King’s various designs in Culver City, the Wilshire District, downtown Los Angeles, and finally a rare visit to the original condition, 16-story Villa Riviera Penthouse where R.D. King lived with his family. Ticket includes a meal and a champagne lunch at the Villa Riviera. Bus leaves at 9 a.m. Arrive by 8:40 a.m. to get onto the bus at 710 Pier Ave., Hermosa Beach. Every Monday until December 16. Cancer Support Community South Bay free workshops led by Kineret Sherman, a certified life coach, spiritual care provider and cancer survivor. Topics will explore body image, how to talk about a new sexuality with a partner, exercises to regain trust in non-sexual touch after treatments and more. Dr. Kedar is one of the leading experts on Islam and Arabic Literature in the world. He is the Dept. Chair of Arabic at Bar Ilan University in Israel and for 25 years served as a Lt. Col. in the IDF intelligence corp specializing in Syria, Arab mass media, Islamic groups and Israeli Arabs.
