Hermosa Pride Festival returns

The Second Annual Hermosa Beach Pride Festival returns to Hermosa Beach Friday evening and Saturday, June 16, and 17, with events for everyone ranging from group workouts to music and a drag show. The festival is presented by the Hermosa Beach Pride Organization and will benefit the South Bay LGBTQ Center,  and the LOVE Foundation. 

Friday night

  • Drag show at Saint Rocke. Doors open at 8 p.m. Admission with ticket only. Ages 21 and older. Tickets at etix.com. $45. Includes dinner from El Tarasco. 142 E. Pacific Coast Hwy., Hermosa Beach. Advanced tickets only, at SaintRocke.com

Girls volleyball camp

Registration is open for Mini-Mustang Girls Volleyball Camp. The camp is for girls in grades 3-8 and will be held July 17-19, 8-11 a.m. at Mira Costa High School, 1401 Artesia Blvd., Manhattan Beach. Instruction and games with Mira Costa volleyball coaches and the 2022-23 volleyball team provided. Girls will be grouped according to age and skill. All campers receive a t-shirt and light snacks. Beach Cities Symphony free concert

The concert, “Artists of the Future,” highlights three student soloists along with the works of Debussy and Beethoven. Free admission and free parking. 8 p.m. at El Camino College’s Marsee Auditorium, 16007 Crenshaw Blvd., Torrance. A lecture by Maestro Pope will precede the concert at 7:15 p.m.

Docent Guided Nature Walk at Alta Vicente Reserve

As walkers explore the native coastal sage scrub habitat, they will also have the opportunity to see concrete observation stations built in the late 1920s to support the 14” guns at Ft. Macarthur, view what remains of a dual 6” gun battery built during World War II and visit one of the best preserved Cold War-era Nike missile launch sites in the country. This is a moderate to strenuous hike. Free admission. Meet at 9 a.m. by the flagpole at Rancho Palos Verdes City Hall, 30940 Hawthorne Blvd. Information: losserenos.org

Friends of the Library sale

The Hermosa Beach Friends of the Library Bookstore will hold its monthly sale from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Items on sale include books, DVDs, CDs, LPs and puzzles, all priced at $1 or less. The bookstore is located on 11th Place behind the Hermosa Beach Community Center. It’s west of the Veterans Memorial and across the street from the Alano Club. Weekday hours are Mondays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Parking is available in the community center parking lot. For more information, go to hbfol.org.

Guided Family Nature Walk at White Point Nature Preserve

10:30 a.m. with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy. Naturalists will guide you along a trail to discover a unique variety of wildlife in their coastal sage scrub habitat with amazing views across to the ocean. Meet in front of the Nature Center and come inside to explore after the hike. Reservations not required. Preserve parking available at the end of the street in a gravel lot at 1600 West Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.

Fundraiser for Ukraine humanitarian relief

Uncorked The Wine Shop is hosting a fundraiser for United Help Ukraine, a non-profit aid organization, on Saturday, June 17 and Sunday, June 18. Twenty percent of all sales at both locations, 302 Pier Ave. in Hermosa Beach and 1000 Manhattan Ave. in Manhattan Beach, as well as online at uncorkedwineshops.com, go to support this cause. At the Hermosa Beach location, 3-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, there will be live music and a discussion of conditions in Ukraine by Kateryna Orlova, a native of Irpin, Ukraine and her husband, Don Karasevicz, who have been active in aiding and relocating refugees since the beginning of the war. 

Malaga Cove Art on the Lawn Show

Saturday, June 17 and Sunday, June 18, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Paintings, jewelry, ceramics, photography, wearable art and prints. Malaga Cove Plaza is located at the entrance to the city of Palos Verdes Estates on Palos Verdes Drive West between Via Chico and Via Corta. Free parking.
Summer Concert in the Park

The concert features The Band Remix, an 80s and 90s funk and R&B revue. There will also be food trucks, a beer and wine booth, giveaways, crafts and inflatables for kids. 4-6 p.m. at the Ken Dyda Civic Center, 30940 Hawthorne Blvd., Rancho Palos Verdes. Palos Verdes Peninsula Village information session

Word Women: Poetry Heals

Cancer Support Community South Bay (CSC South Bay) offers this free monthly workshop on the last Saturday of each month.
