Shakespeare by the Sea returns to Hermosa’s Valley Park on Thursday, July 13, and to Manhattan Beach’s Polliwog park on Thursday, July 20.

Shakespeare by the Sea is back in the South Bay. The group will stage “Hamlet” on Thursday, July 13 at Valley Park, 2521 Valley Drive, Hermosa Beach. Showtime is 7 p.m. “Twelfth Night” is on tap for Thursday, July 20 at Polliwog Park, followed by “Hamlet” on Friday, July 21, also at Polliwog Park. Showtime is 7 p.m. Polliwog Park is located at 1601 Manhattan Beach Blvd., Manhattan Beach. Admission is free, with donations gladly accepted. Shakespeare by the Sea is a non-profit organization. Gift card drive

The Redondo Beach Police Department’s Domestic Violence Victims Advocacy Program is holding a back-to-school gift card drive. Gift cards may be dropped off at the police station lobby through Aug. 16. 401 Diamond St., Redondo Beach.

Sunsational Sandcastles

The Roundhouse Aquarium on the Manhattan Beach Pier is accepting entries for its third annual summer sand sculpture contest to Aug. 1. Build a sand sculpture on your own time at any location. Submit a photo of your entry online. Entry fee: $30. Information: roundhouseaquarium.org/sandcastle.

Girls volleyball camp

Registration is open for Mini-Mustang Girls Volleyball Camp. The camp is for girls in grades 3-8 and will be held July 17-19, 8 to 11 a.m. at Mira Costa High School, 1401 Artesia Blvd., Manhattan Beach. Instruction and games with Mira Costa volleyball coaches and the 2022-23 volleyball team provided. Girls will be grouped according to age and skill. All campers receive a t-shirt and light snacks. Processing Grief

Cancer Support Community South Bay (CSC South Bay) is offering this four-part series of workshops led by the co-founders of Luna Peak Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports those affected by cancer and grief. The workshop is designed to help participants process the grief of losing a loved one in an interactive way through journal prompts, humor and games. Coin club meeting

A junior volleyball tournament hosted by the Junior Volleyball Association (JVA) and Beach Volleyball Clubs of America (BVCA) will be held Friday, July 14- Tuesday, July 18, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., on the volleyball courts both north and south of the Hermosa Beach Pier, between 10th and 15th streets.

Key Health Benefits Protections for Women

Cancer Support Community South Bay (CSC South Bay) is offering this free program led by representatives from the Department of Labor Employee Benefits Security Administration. Participants will be provided with information and education on federal health benefit laws, including Preventative Care Protections for Women. The workshop is from noon to 1 p.m. on Zoom. The Hermosa Beach Friends of the Library Bookstore will hold its monthly sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Items on sale include books, DVDs, CDs, LPs and puzzles, all priced at $1 or less. The bookstore is located on 11th Place behind the Hermosa Beach Community Center. It’s west of the Veterans Memorial and across the street from the Alano Club. The Power of Meditation

Summer concerts at Polliwog Park

The annual Concerts in the Park series at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach continues with the band U.S. 99. The series features concerts every Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Polliwog Park amphitheater through Sept. 5. Admission is free. Concert-goers are welcome to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnics. The Beach Cities Health District is offering free fitness classes Mondays in July and August. July’s program: Mindful Yoga. August: Zumba. Dolphins lecture

Eric Martin, an aquarist and facilities director of Roundhouse Aquarium, will give a talk, “Discovering Dolphins: A drone’s eye view from the Manhattan Beach Pier,” from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Manhattan Beach Library, 1320 Highland Ave. Martin will share his photos, videos and knowledge about local bottlenose dolphins. This Instrument Petting Zoo teaches children about each instrument family and provides an opportunity for children and parents alike to explore the foundations of an orchestra. HB Conversation & Community Beautification Event

Community members are invited to join Mayor Ray Jackson for his next monthly conversation and beautification event, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on July 23 at the Hermosa Beach Community Theatre, 710 Pier Ave. Hear about Hermosa’s Parks Master Plan, then work in the garden in front of the community center. Volunteer opportunity

On July 24 at 10 a.m., the Hermosa Five-O will host a workshop in which participants make no-sew blankets for shelter dogs. All materials provided. The blankets will go to dogs at local shelters. Coffee and cookies provided. The activity will take place in Room 9 at the Hermosa Beach Community Center, 710 Pier Ave.

Info session for senior citizens group

Learn more about the Palos Verdes Peninsula Village, an organization dedicated to creating a sense of community for older adults who live on the Peninsula, at an information session scheduled for 11 a.m. on July 25 in the Activity Room at Hesse Park, 29301 Hawthorne Blvd., Rancho Palos Verdes.
