Ansel Adams: Local Works

Through Jan. 21, 25 copies of never-before seen Chadwick School campus, student life, sports and nature photographic works by friends Ansel Adams and fellow-photographer Cedric Wright can be viewed at the PV Library, 701 Silver Spur Rd., RHE, part of the school’s 75th anniversary. Torture in Time of War

Loyola Law School, 919 Albany St., downtown L.A., will explore the litigation and human rights issues arising from wartime atrocities, 12 – 1 p.m., focusing on possible criminal and civil remedies available in instance such as the now known from the infamous Abu Ghraib Prison. Portraits drawn from the lives of former detainees will be exhibited at the Laband Art Gallery at Loyola Marymount Univ. Pruning with the Best

An oft times thorny issue… The public is invited to a free demonstration of rose pruning by Kathy Barron, a volunteer caretaker of the garden at Redondo Beach’s Heritage Court. Creature Feature

The kelp bass is this month’s Roundhouse Marine Studies Lab & Aquarium feature creature. Known as calico bass, they are solitary animals, light brown with green or tan blotches, found in the kelp forest or various structures such as rocks or pilings. A Hermosa Beach Walking Audit will be presented with national livability expert Dan Burden, and from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., and until 9 p.m., the Bikability/Walkability workshop needs your input. Studies confirm that activity levels in walkable and bikable communities are as much as 35% higher than communities where it is difficult to get around. The Vitality City initiative is partnering with the SB Bicycle Coalition to create a bike and pedestrian mast plan for each beach city by August, 2011.
