Tennis: The 46th Annual Manhattan Beach Open Tennis Tournament presented by South Bay Ford will be played Thursday through Sunday at Live Oak Park and Mira Costa High School. Divisions include Men’s and Women’s Open; 4.5-5.0 singles and doubles; 4.0 singles and doubles and 3.5 and below singles and doubles. Football: The Redondo Beach Youth Football and Cheer has openings at the following levels: Flag (6-7), Mitey Mite ( 8 &9 ) and limited space in the Pee Wee (9,10 & 11). Baseball: The 36th Annual Peninsula Baseball Camp will take place at Palos Verdes High School from July 29-Aug. 2. The camp is for boys and girls ages 6-14 and will run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. (full day) and 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (1/2 day). There will be a guest alumni speaker from the Los Angeles Dodgers. The cost is $230 (full day) and $115 (1/2 day). The 9th Annual Peninsula Baseball ½ Day Baseball Camp will take place at Hesse Park in Rancho Palos Verdes from Aug. 5-9. The camp is for boys and girls ages 5 to 12 and runs from 9 a.m. to noon. Mustang Baseball Camps will be holding a summer sessions for players ages 6-14. The camp runs from 9 a.m.-noon July 29-Aug. 2 at Mira Costa High School. Fees are $200 and include t-shirt and snack. Mira Costa varsity coaches and players will instruct campers in hitting, fielding, pitching and base running. Games will be played each day. Volleyball: The 20th Annual Smackfest beach volleyball tournament takes place Saturday in Hermosa Beach. Billed as the largest co-ed 4’s tournament in the country, the event features a party atmosphere and costume-themed teams with some of the game’s greats competing against each other. Smackfest benefits So Cal Foundation for Children (SCFC) which raises funds for scholarships, education, guidance and athletic opportunity to underprivileged youth. The California Beach Volleyball Association will be holding the Jr. Manhattan Beach Open Saturday and Sunday at the Manhattan Beach Pier. Play begins at 9 a.m. each day. The 10th Annual Jayo Invitational Celebrity Pro-Am beach volleyball tournament will be played Saturday, Aug. 3 at Dockweiler State Beach. Pro Captains include Gold Medalists Kerri Walsh, Dain Blanton, Eric Fonoimoana along with World Champion Holly McPeak, 3-time Olympian Jeff Nygaard and Tour Champions Casey Jennings and Albert Hannemann. The annual Mira Costa Girls Volleyball Camp will be held Monday through Thursday, July 22-25 from 1-4 p.m. at Mira Costa High School. The Amateur Athletic Union’s (AAU) Southern Pacific Beach Volleyball Committee hosts a four-part Summer Series at Marine Avenue in Manhattan Beach. Competition begins at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays July 9-23 and Thursday, July 25 featuring boys 16U/14U/12U and girls 18U/16U/14U/12U/10U divisions. Open to AAU members, the cost of the tournament in $53.49 per player. The tournament is also a qualifying event for the West Coast AAU Junior Olympic Games held in Hermosa Beach July 27-30. Aquatics: Loyola Marymount University Swim Camps will be holding six weekly summer sessions led by LMU Women’s Swim Coaches Bonnie Adair and Elaine Ferritto. Developmental camp (ages 7-14) will develop skills in all four competitive strokes while an Advanced camp (ages 9-15) will focus on elite level training methods and techniques using underwater videotaping. Cycling: The South Bay Wheelmen hosts a group ride on the first Saturday of every month. Cyclists meet in the parking lot of the Catalina Coffee Company, 126 N. Catalina Ave, Redondo Beach at 9 a.m. The moderately-paced ride is 30-40 miles with some climbing and regroups at several points so no one gets left behind. The Wheelmen also hosts the Baxter Time Trial Series of bicycle races that began this week and will continue each Sunday through Sept. 29 on a course in Carson. Men and women divisions compete in several age groups where racers are awarded points for placing and winners are announced at the end of the series. Rugby: Open to boys and girls ages 12-18, the Palos Verdes Rugby Summer Camp will be held Mon.-Fri. July 22-Aug. 2 from 2-5:30 p.m. each day at Malaga Cove. The first week will include an introduction to rugby while the second week will focus on advanced skills.
