Beach Cities Sports: Paddleboarding, running, yoga and more

Paddleboarding: The Lanakila Classic will take place Saturday at Seaside Lagoon. The ocean race features outriggers, surfskis, SUP, paddleboards including a 1000-meter kids course, 5-mile short course and 9-mile long course. Running: The 39th Annual American Martyrs School 5K will be held Saturday at 8 a.m. The in and out course race starts at American Martyrs School at Laurel Avenue and 15th Street and goes north along Ardmore Avenue to Oak Avenue. The race includes a stroller division and costume contest. Online registration available at racewire.com. Registration is also available Friday. Feb. 22 from 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. at O’Donnell Hall and on Saturday from 6:30 – 7:45 a.m. on the school blacktop.

 

Registration is open for the 16th Annual Village Runner St. Patrick’s Day 5K Run and Community Walk to be held at 8 a.m. Sunday, Mar. 17 in Redondo Beach’s Riviera Village. Following the 5K at 9:30 a.m. will be the kid’s Little Leprechaun Dash for Gold. All participants will receive a St. Patrick’s Day Run t-shirt. There will be age division awards and cash prizes to the top three overall male and female runners in the 5K run. Entry fees are $35 for adults and $30 for kids (add $5 after Feb. 13). Pants Off Racing (“POR”) will be holding a “Sandy Sauté” on Saturday, Mar. 30 in Hermosa Beach. POR provides support directly to families that are impacted with pancreatic cancer. Fundraising: Former El Segundo softball standout Shannon Brooker, now a senior at Boston University, will be running in the 123rd Boston Marathon on Monday, Apr. 15. She will be sponsored by the Martin Richard Foundation, which was founded by the parents of Martin Richard, an 8-year-old boy who lost his life during the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. Brooker is attempting to reach her fundraising requirement of $7,500. Donations can be made three ways: at the Thursday, March 14 fundraiser at CPK in Manhattan Beach; sending a check to the Martin Richard Foundation (℅ Shannon Brooker); or on her page at crowdrise.com.

 

Yoga: Yoga on the Octagon at the Redondo Beach Pier is free for all levels. Held Wednesdays 6 – 7 p.m., 500 Fisherman’s Wharf, Redondo Beach (west end of the pier behind Tony’s). Bring a yoga mat, towel and water. Redondopier.com.

Shade Hotel Redondo Beach offers free, all-level yoga on the Aquadeck, Mondays and Wednesdays 7:30-8:30 a.m., weather permitting. Attendees should wear comfortable clothing.
