Over 400 pumpkin racers lined up at the Manhattan Beach Pier on Sunday, Oct. 28 for the 28th Annual World Famous Pumpkin Race. Karl Rogers founded the race in 1990 when he invited friends Michael Aaker and John Holiday to roll pumpkins down Longfellow Avenue. In 2007 the Manhattan Beach Parks and Rec department, under Idris “Mallet of Justice” Al-Oboudi, moved the race to its Manhattan pier location, under the sponsorship of LA Car Guys. The race has spread to over 250 communities nationwide and been named one of the country’s Top 5 Halloween traditions by the Travel Channel. For more information visit PumpkinRace.com
