Redondo Beach Police increased its presence on the outskirts of this edition of BeachLife Ranch – in uniform and undercover – aiding in the arrest of six ticket scalpers on the first day. Police recovered hundreds of wristbands.

Chief Joe Hoffman also praised a new private security firm that worked the three-day festival.

“In my opinion, security was much tighter this year,” he said, noting more personnel inside and outside.

Another scalper was arrested Saturday and two arrests made for public intoxication.

“From an arrest standpoint, there wasn’t much activity,” said Hoffman overall.

Redondo Beach officers again wore cowboy hats for BeachLife Ranch, this time it was a new black-straw model with an original seven-point RBPD silver star badge from a hundred years ago, recreated in leather.

Also, select RBPD cars and motorcycles were outfitted with bull horns.

On Saturday, the Santa Monica Police Department, as part of its assistance to RBPD for the weekend, had five officers on horseback patrol the outside of the concert grounds.

Artist Cody Jinks thanked the RBPD during his performance Saturday after Hoffman ran into him backstage earlier.  ER
