In what head coach Duncan Avery considers a rebuilding year, Redondo’s boys volleyball team is in the hunt for the Bay League title while holding the No. 6 spot in the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 rankings.

Mira Costa is ranked No. 8 and Peninsula holds the No. 1 position in Division 2 while Palos Verdes continues to battle in Division 1.

“With only one senior on our roster, we have a very young yet talented squad,” Redondo coach Duncan Avery said. “We have three league matches left and each opponent is highly ranked in CIF. The Bay League is arguably the toughest league in CIF and we are excited that we have the opportunity to compete for a league title.”

With seven sophomores and seven juniors on its roster, Redondo has only one senior on its squad in Jo Rocha who has led the team to an impressive season.

“Jo is handling the pressure extremely well,” Avery added. “He is a great setter as well as leader.”

Mira Costa has rebounded from its trip to Hawaii where numerous boys were involved in a drinking incident prompting first-year head coach Avery Drost to discipline the team by withholding them from the Mustang’s annual contest against Loyola forcing them to forfeit.

Mira Costa rebounded with wins against Peninsula, Palos Verdes and Crescenta Valley, but suffered an upset loss to Westlake after being seeded second in the Santa Barbara High/Karch Kiraly Tournament of Champions.

Dane Johnson and Jack Walmer were selected to the All-Tournament team and will be counted on to help Mira Costa in the playoffs which begin May 8.
