Spotlight:

Volunteers are needed to help spruce up Seaside Heroes Park, 8-11 a.m. The park’s name is a tribute to three soldiers who lost their lives in Afghanistan and Iraq and in memory of all veterans. Park beautification takes place the second Saturday of every month, 8-11 a.m. Volunteers remove weeds and dead leaves, among other tasks. Bring tools and gloves if you have them (otherwise, they will be supplied), sunscreen, water and masks. New art exhibit

Visitors and locals are invited to check out “Ultra!”, a new public art exhibition featuring 21 artworks in locations throughout Torrance. The exhibition spotlights regional contemporary artists. The artwork is on display through Aug. 28. For a location map, go to torranceartmuseum.com/ultra. 

BeachLife Festival

Tickets are on sale to the BeachLife Festival, which will be held in person Sept. 10-12. The Redondo Beach music festival on North Harbor Drive had to take a hiatus last year because of COVID. This year’s acts include Jane’s Addiction and Cage the Elephant (Friday, Sept. 10), Counting Crows (Saturday) and Ziggy and Stephen Marley performing the songs of Bob Marley (Sunday), as well as Portugal. The Man, Save Ferris, Men at Work, The Wallflowers, Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals and many more. Ticket options include three-day passes, single-day passes and VIP passes. Live music

A free summer concert series is underway on Fisherman’s Wharf on the Redondo Beach Pier. Admission is free. Concerts are Thursdays and Saturdays, 6 to 8 p.m. Concerts on Thursday’s feature tribute bands, with tributes to such legendaries as The Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Fleetwood Mac. King Chris will close out the series on Aug. 28 with some funk, R&B and soul.

The MB 360 Podcast airs live at 8 a.m. every Friday and features the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce. The podcast hosts special guests and introduces active chamber members. Workshop: Clinical Trials 

Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach (CSCRB) offers this free program to build awareness about clinical trials. Led by Vy Le, Community Health Educator for UCI Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, participants will learn how these trials are structured and how to foster an open dialogue with their health care team about the eligibility and viability of clinical trials as a treatment option. Blues rock guitarist and singer-songwriter Josh Smith will perform with his band at 5 p.m. at Polliwog Park. This is the second in a four-part concert series at Polliwog. Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach (CSCRB) offers this free program led by sleep coach Corina Gheorghiu to help alleviate post pandemic stress and re-enter life. Gheorghiu will guide participants in a series of Tapas Acupressure Techniques (TAT) that connect physical, mental, emotional and spiritual parts to help alleviate stress and and foster a sense of well-being. Celebrity Lecture Series

Retired Rear Admiral Sandra Adams will give a talk on women in the U.S. Armed Forces at 11 a.m. on Aug. 21 at Western Museum of Flight. The talk is part of the museum’s Celebrity Lecture Series. Richstone Beach Party

The Richstone Family Center will hold its first in-person event in more than a year when it throws its popular Endless Summer Beach Party on Aug. 28. The party celebrates the center’s volunteers and donors and raises funds for Richstone, which provides child abuse and domestic violence treatment and prevention services.

Nature walk

Los Serenos de Point Vicente, a volunteer organization in Rancho Palos Verdes, will hold a docent-guided nature walk at 10 a.m. on Sept. 12. Walk through coastal sage habitat along the eastern bluff of the Ocean Trails Reserve (East Bluff and Gnatcatcher Trails). Enjoy coastal views, see WWII sites and possibly gray whales. Wear sturdy walking shoes and prepare for warm, cool or windy weather. Cancelled if it rains. Swim the Avenues

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy has released its schedule of events for September.

Team Leader Training at White Point: Sept. 4, 9 a.m. Become a Team Leader for Outdoor Volunteer Days with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy. Team Leaders provide support and oversight during events. If you love restoring habitat and working with others, this program is for you. Applicants must be at least 16 years old and have gone to at least two volunteer events before attending the workshop. Adopt-a-Plot Weed Warrior Training: Sept. 4, 12:30 p.m. Ready to go above and beyond to restore habitat?
