Annual Community Art Show

When: Accepting applications September 1st-30th, 2018

Where: Peninsula Center Library, 701 Silver Spur Rd. Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274

Are you a local artist or art student looking for a chance to exhibit your work to a wide audience?
PVLD’s Annual Community Art Show at the Peninsula Center Library is open to all artists. Artwork in all media is eligible, such as painting, photography, mixed media, and sculpture. To enter, visit www.pvld.org/artinourlibrary and fill out the online application or pick up an entry form at any PVLD library. The deadline for submissions is September 30th, 2018.

Entry fee: $30 to submit up to 3 pieces; High School students: $5 entry fee

Awards: First: $200, Second: $100, Third: $50, and Honorable Mention categories. A Popular Vote will also take place with a special prize.

Opening Reception: Saturday, November 17th, 2018, 5-7 pm

Visual Story Telling + Comics @ Holly Socrates

For kids ages 12+

This 2 class series will provide everything you need to know to get started making comics. Students will study theories of visual language, analyze how comics work and then follow up with the technical process including panels, transitions and a workflow for accomplishing their own projects. The last class will include studio time devoted to individualized feedback of student’s work.

  Dr. Steven Frankel ( Photographer expert, Westside Travel Photography Meetup Group Organizer) will lead the gallery talk. We will learn all about taking photos in Japan, an experience like no other. Nowhere else in the world is the magic combination of the old and new (Tradition, curiosities, fish markets, castles, etc). We will share best photos and great tips.

The second part of this event is dedicated to the pros and cons of using a smartphone as your only travel camera.

This is a great opportunity to meet with other local photographers in a friendly and inspirational space.

Free to the public.

Installation artist and architect, Alison Wright’s solo exhibition includes video, photography, and sculpture. With this work, Wright explores the questions surrounding what qualities make a hero. Are heroes still heroes when they change what they do and where they appear in history?
