Spotlight:

The Hermosa Beach Summer Sidewalk Sale & Celebration is this weekend, Aug. 6-8, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., with businesses along Pier Avenue and Hermosa Avenue taking part. In addition to sidewalk sales, there will be live music at Java Man and Gum Tree, a pop-up market, a family photo opportunity, a family concert and ongoing activities and workshops.

The Sun & Sea Collective Pop-Up Market, featuring a variety of vendors, is 11 a.m. — 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday in the Stars Antiques parking lot on Pier Avenue. 

The Coast Music Family Concert, with an array of musical talents, is 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at Beach Market, 1325 Hermosa Ave.

In addition, families are invited to view the new “Biltmore Hotel” mural at 14th Street and Hermosa Avenue from 4 — 6 p.m., Friday through Sunday for professional family photos.

New art exhibit

Visitors and locals are invited to check out Ultra!”, a new public art exhibition featuring 21 artworks in locations throughout Torrance. The exhibition spotlights regional contemporary artists.

Live music

A free summer concert series is underway on Fisherman’s Wharf on the Redondo Beach Pier. Admission is free.

Concerts are Thursdays and Saturdays, 6 to 8 p.m. Concerts on Thursday’s feature tribute bands, with tributes to such legendaries as The Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Fleetwood Mac.

King Chris will close out the series on Aug. 28 with some funk, R&B and soul.

Concerts on July 29, Aug. 7 and Aug. 19 will be held on the boardwalk.

BeachLife Festival

Tickets are for sale to BeachLife Festival, which will be held in person Sept. 10-12. The Redondo Beach music festival on North Harbor Drive had to take a hiatus last year because of Covid.

This year’s acts include Jane’s Addiction and Cage the Elephant (Friday, Sept. 10), Counting Crows (Saturday) and Ziggy and Stephen Marley performing the songs of Bob Marley (Sunday), as well as Save Ferris, Men at Work, The Wallflowers, Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals and many more.

Embroiderers Guild

Workshop: “Eat to Live Well”

Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach (CSCRB) offers this free program led by Pam Braun, a former chef, cancer survivor and author of the “Anti-Cancer Cookbook.” Braun will share her extensive research on food and its relationship to cancer with a focus on what experts say we should and should not eat to help decrease the chances of cancer and its recurrence. 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Zoom.

Shakespeare by the Sea

Shakespeare by the Sea is back with live, in-person performances. The theater group is staging “Richard III” and “Love’s Labour Lost” this summer at Point Fermin Park in San Pedro.

The final performance of “Richard III” was on July 25. 

The performance dates for “Love’s Labour Lost” are Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, Aug 13-15 and Aug. 20-22. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m., Sunday performances at 7 p.m. 

Admission is free and tickets are not required. Anyone unvaccinated is asked to wear a mask.

Catalytic converter etching event

The Redondo Beach Police Department will hold a catalytic converter etching event from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Aug. 18 in the old Sears parking lot at Del Amo Fashion Center, 22100 Hawthorne Blvd., Torrance.

Celebrity Lecture Series

Richstone Beach Party

The Richstone Family Center will hold its first in-person event in more than a year when it throws its popular Endless Summer Beach Party on Aug. 28. The party celebrates the center’s volunteers and donors and raises funds for Richstone, which provides child abuse and domestic violence treatment and prevention services.

Nature walk

Los Serenos de Point Vicente, a volunteer organization in Rancho Palos Verdes, will hold a docent-guided nature walk at 10 a.m. on Sept. 12. Walk through coastal sage habitat along the eastern bluff of the Ocean Trails Reserve (East Bluff and Gnatcatcher Trails). Enjoy coastal views, see WWII sites and possibly gray whales. Wear sturdy walking shoes and prepare for warm, cool or windy weather. Cancelled if it rains.

Swim the Avenues
