PLANNING COMMISSION

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a vacancy exists on the Planning Commission for an unexpired term ending September 30, 2018

This commission consists of seven members and unless otherwise authorized by the City Council, one member shall be appointed from each district and two members shall be appointed at large.  The commission shall have such powers and duties as prescribed for planning commissions under any law of the State, ordinance of the City, resolution of the City Council or the Master Plan of the City.  The Commission shall advise the Mayor and City Council in all matters relating to planning, zoning, and the physical development of the City as directed by the City Council and in such other matters as may be directed by the City Council.

This commission’s purpose is to promote the public health, safety, and general welfare by providing for the identification, protection, enhancement, perpetuation, and use of historical resources such as buildings, structures, sites, places and districts within the City that reflect special elements of the City’s architectural, artistic, cultural, historical, political, and social heritage.

This applicant should be from one of the following disciplines:  architecture, history, architectural history, urban planning, archeology or other historic/preservation related disciplines such as American studies; American civilization; cultural geography; cultural anthropology.
