Mira Costa handed rival Redondo its first league loss of the season Friday in an uncharacteristic game for the Sea Hawks.

The Mustangs garnered 15 hits, including three home runs at Redondo’s new field and took advantage of 10 Sea Hawk errors to score 10 unearned runs in a 16-4 victory. It wasn’t as if Mira Costa, who entered the game ranked No. 6 in the CIF Southern Section Division 3 poll, needed any handouts. But the team was more than willing to accept Redondo’s generosity.

The Mustangs have road games against Leuzinger on Wednesday and West on Friday, May 6. Mira Costa will have a rematch with its cross-town rival when it hosts Redondo on Tuesday, May 10 in 3:15 p.m. contest.

The win helped West keep pace with Peninsula (14-7-1, 4-1) in the Bay League race. Peninsula defeated Mira Costa 3-1 Wednesday. The Mustangs (14-11, 2-3) look for a split in the series when the Panthers come down the hill for a 3:15 p.m. game Friday in Manhattan Beach.
