‘Endless Summer’ artist’s mural to trace history of surfing in Hermosa

The highly anticipated unveiling of John Van Hamersveld’s 75-foot long surf mural will be held Sunday, June 28. Above are working sketches of the mural.The mural will be on the north facing wall of the Underground Pub and Grill, at 14th Street and Hermosa Avenue. The Palos Verdes artist is best known for his Endless Summer surf movie poster and his Capitol Records’ album covers for the Beatles’ “Magical Mystery Tour,” the Rolling Stones’ “Exile on Mainstreet,” the Beach Boys’ “Made in California” and Jefferson Airplane’s “Crown of Creation.” Van Hamersveld’s 1966 Endless Summer and his 1968 Jimi Hendrix Experience posters are in the New York Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection.
