Erika L. Zimmermann 1927 – 2018
A fiercely independent, strong and courageous woman of 91 years, passed away at home in Hermosa Beach while enjoying the ocean view. California  Born on the North Sea island of Föhr.  At only 25, after a 5-year courtship Erika and Bill married on Friday September 13, 1952 to make the next sailing to America.  Settling in Iowa Erika worked at the Maid-Rite in Clinton before they moved to Maquoketa where Bill worked for Clinton Engine, both became American Citizens. Moved to Hermosa Beach in 1962 and raised their 2 daughters.  While ironing Bill’s white shirts Erika cleaned and sorted reclaimed lumber he brought home from Mattel Toys that they would use to remodel their 1910 bungalow.  Retired from the ECC Library after 15 years and then traveled the world.  Volunteered at LAX and at Beach Cities Health District. Erika loved concerts and exercise with her friend Astrid Grönwold. She had such joy when her friend Mark Mardahl brought a box of pastries and some good coffee to share. Erika was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Zimmermann, daughter Karin Zimmermann,.  She is survived by her devoted daughter Kate Zimmermann-Geismar (Gerald, deceased).
