SOUTH BAY BABIES SPORT TINY RED HATS

TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR HEART HEALTH

Torrance Memorial Medical Center will host a photo opportunity to celebrate its participation in the American Heart Association’s Little Hats, Big Hearts program on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m.

WHO/WHAT:  Torrance Memorial Medical Center will host a photo opportunity to celebrate its participation in the American Heart Association’s Little Hats, Big Hearts program on Tuesday, Feb. 13. at 10 a.m. Torrance Memorial will receive more than 250 handmade knitted red caps, instead of traditional pink or blue, to help raise awareness about congenital heart defects, the most common type of birth defect. Leaders from the American Heart Association will personally deliver the hats to the newborns and their families who are in the unit on Tuesday morning.

All babies born in the month of February at 15 participating hospitals will receive a hat handmade by volunteers from across Southern California. For the parents, the hat is a reminder to cherish their health and commit to helping their children grow healthy and strong hearts.

Mothers in the maternity unit will be available for interview. Newborns in red hats will be available to be photographed.

Little Hats, Big hearts began in Chicago in 2014 and launched in Los Angeles last year with support from Union Bank. The project has grown to include 660 hospitals in 40 states, handing out more than 100,000 hats.
