Soccer: Beach FC is introducing their Fall Soccer Academy on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Open to boys and girls U7-U10, sessions will take place every Tuesday and Friday from 5-6:15 p.m. at Redondo Union High School. Cost is $100 for eight sessions and attendance the first night is free. Coaches are nationally licensed and gifted in working with this age group. Players become more comfortable with the ball in a fun and games-oriented environment. Volleyball: Southern California Volleyball Club (SCVC) Coach Tommy Chaffins will be holding clinics for 8th grade girls on Sundays Sept. 8, 15 and 22 at the Redondo Union High School Gym from 3-5 p.m. Cost is $125 for three clinics. SCVC will be holding girls clinics at Aviation Gym, 1935 Manhattan Beach Blvd. in Redondo Beach. Sixth through eighth graders meet Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 4 through Oct. 2 from 4-5:30 p.m.; 9th-12th graders meet on Sundays, Sept. 15, 22 and 29 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Walk-in’s are welcome for the two SCVC clinics. The Smackfest Beach Olympics on will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Hermosa Beach Pier. When teams are done playing a volleyball game in their pool, they will then compete against another team in their pool in activities such as Frisbee football, Bocce ball, bat races, Cornhole, etc. The team from each pool with the highest combined score advances to the playoffs. Beach Tennis: The Dealer.com Hermosa Beach Open beach tennis tournament will be held Friday through Sunday, Sept. 27-29 adjacent to the Hermosa Beach Pier. Players in the men’s and women’s pro doubles, mixed doubles and singles divisions will vie for $10,000 in price money. There will also be a men’s and women’s amateur doubles tournament. Cycling: The South Bay Wheelmen hosts a group ride on the first Saturday of every month. Cyclists meet in the parking lot of the Catalina Coffee Company, 126 N. Catalina Ave, Redondo Beach at 9 a.m. The moderately-paced ride is 30-40 miles with some climbing and regroups at several points so no one gets left behind.
