A ribbon cutting for the newly remodeled Hermosa View School scheduled for this Saturday, September 10, has been canceled because rain is forecast for Saturday. The ribbon cutting will be reschedule for late September or early October, according to a statement from Hermosa Schools Superintendent Jason Johnson. The school reopened Tuesday, September 6 for transitional kindergarten through second grader students.

Hermosa View construction began in July of last year, shortly after construction was completed on the new Hermosa Vista School, which replaced the long closed North School.

View and Vista were funded by Measure S, a $59 million bond proposal approved by voters in 2016. At the time, Hermosa Valley had 948 third through eighth grade students on a campus designed for 750 students. View had 481 kindergarten through second grade students on a campus designed for 216 students.

New classrooms were added and old classrooms modernized in View’s zero net energy redesign.

School election canceled

The Hermosa Beach School Board was to have three open seats on the November 8, general election ballot. But only two of the three incumbents, and one challenger filed for the three seats. Incumbent Steven McCall is not seeking reelection.

As a result, there will be no Hermosa Beach school board election in November. Incumbents Margaret Bove-LeMonica and Jen Cole will be appointed to their second terms. Retired Hermosa school district teacher Catherine Barrow, the only challenger, will be appointed to fill the third open seat.
