PCH incident
In an incident that briefly closed the northbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway during Thursday rush hour, a Long Beach man allegedly punched and bit his wife for not letting him drive their car, and kicked and punched two people who tried to separate the couple.
Police responded to reports of a fight shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday in the 1700 block of Pacific Coast Highway. Officers arrived to find a man trying to drive away while a woman stood next to the driver’s door, bleeding from her arm and face, Sgt. Robert Higgins said.
The car was stopped, blocking two lanes of PCH, “causing cars to dangerously swerve around them,” Higgins said. The couple’s 5-year-old was in the back seat, police said.
The man and woman “refused to follow commands and had to be physically restrained by multiple officers and bystanders to be taken into custody,” Higgins said. The man was arrested on suspicion of spousal battery and battery.
“The fight was because the suspect wanted to drive, and the victim would not allow that because the suspect was too intoxicated,” Higgins said.
